I recognize that everyone is unique, and will not respond to the same types of therapy. I am able to draw on a variety of therapy strategies ranging from humanistic forms of therapy, such as Narrative, Emotion-Focused, Solution-Focused and Collaborative to more evidenced-based behavioral therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to name a few. More importantly, I cater to what best works for the client in front of me. I strive for authenticity rather than perfection.
EducationAll of the foregoing counseling modalities are known to bring healing to individuals, couples, and families.
Drawing from my legal background, mediation experience, and extensive studies in various therapy modalities, I am able to integrate valuable insights into communication, negotiation, and problem-solving strategies. In this way, I guide individuals and couples towards positive outcomes.
Working Languages: English; Vietnamese
Areas of FocusChildren, especially those under the age of 9, have not mastered speech in a way that enables them to clearly describe what they are feeling and experiencing. Play therapy is a way for them to communicate through play. As a therapist trained in various play therapy approaches, I will provide appropriate play items and open the door for the development of a safe alliance with me. As a result, the child will be able to fully express and explore feelings, thoughts, and behaviors through play. I believe that the parent-child relationship is of utmost importance to the growth and development of a child. I will also work with parents to train them to use basic, child-centered play-therapy skills. In this way, they can become therapeutic agents for their children as well.
Adolescence is a crucial time of developmental transition to adulthood. The teenage years are more often than not characterized by risk-taking, identity-finding, and diminishing communication with parents. During this period, as a parent, you witness their emotions and behaviors. In therapy, I will provide the adolescent with a safe place to talk about feelings without feeling judged. I am someone who does not have any authority over them and does not know them on a personal level like their parents.
Another type of therapy I do for individuals (of all ages) and families is Trauma Processing Therapy (my term). Technically, it is called Cognitive Process Therapy (CPT). It means that as your therapist I will work with you to explore how traumatic events have altered your thoughts and beliefs about yourself, and others around you. I will help you identify negative, inaccurate, and unhelpful thoughts and beliefs to develop awareness of how these thoughts negatively impact your feelings and actions about you and your world.
Also, I can provide ADHD assessment of children ages 6 through 9 and older individuals ages 10 through 62. I provide in-office, computer-based, QB-tech ADHD assessment. The results are provided within 24 hours. Analysis is provided immediately with options appropriate for their child. For adults, the results, analysis, and options are also provided within 24 hours.
My commitmentWhat I promise is a way to better your life in some way, let's start this journey together now. I would love to hear from you! If you are willing to put in the time and effort in yourself as I will in you.
On a personal note...I enjoy spending time with my husband and my three kids ages 4, 5, and 14. When things get too hectic, you can find me nestled in my bed with a true-crime book or watching a Rom-Com on Netflix.
